The Myth
The Nachtridders are supernatural beings described in Dutch folklore as spirits or devils that create flames in the sky. According to the folklorist Buddingh, they ride horses through the air and regularly engage in battles with one another high above the ground. Their appearance was associated with mysterious aerial phenomena and fiery displays that could be seen in the night sky.
