The Myth
Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyad Castle, is said to be haunted by several restless spirits whose presence is connected to the suffering and violence associated with the ancient fortress. Among its most notorious ghosts is a monk who haunts the Capistrano Tower. According to the legend, the monk was accused of spying on a nobleman during a meeting in the council room. As punishment, he was sentenced to a horrific death: he was bricked alive into a wall, where he slowly perished.
The monk is said to remain trapped within the castle, continuing the very act for which he was punished. His ghost watches those who enter the tower, silently spying on visitors from beyond the grave. People who explore the area may experience the unsettling sensation that someone is observing them, even when nobody is visible nearby.
Other reported hauntings at Corvin Castle include shadowy human figures, mysterious glowing orbs, and unexplained voices. Visitors have described hearing screams and footsteps in empty rooms, feeling sudden waves of dread, and experiencing the sensation of unseen hands touching them. Strange disturbances resembling poltergeist activity have also been reported, contributing to the castle’s reputation as a place haunted by restless spirits.
